PurposeThe purpose of this policy is to establish the procedures to be followed by the student body, faculty, and staff in the event of a death on campus. Implementation of these procedures whenever necessary should minimize disruption of scheduled activities. PrioritiesA death on campus may have a huge psychological impact on the student body. This response plan is to help combat some of these problems, as well as inform the correct personnel with what to do. Faculty and staff will be required to assist in assuring student safety. Expectations for Employees and StudentsIn the event of a death, those not involved should try to carry on business as usual. Should a death occur, Campus Safety should be notified immediately at 386-226-7233 (SAFE) in Daytona or 928-777-3728 in Prescott, as well as 911. CommunicationsEmbry-Riddle Aeronautical University will communicate with the campus community by the following means:
Responsibility and ControlThe Incident Command System will be used as directed by the National Incident Management System. The university may also assemble the U-EOT to make university related decisions. The ERAU Campus Safety will operate an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) located in the Campus Safety Office located on the 2nd floor of the University Center. The Incident Commander or a designee may be represented in the Volusia County EOC and/or will be in continuous communications with the ERAU EOC. Emergency and Training PlansMedical Emergency response procedures are to be followed first in the event of a death or suspected death. 911 must be called for all situations. RESPONSEThe below response steps are to be followed after the Medical Emergency response steps have been completed and Stevens Point Police have responded. In the event of a confirmed death on campus:
