Medical Emergency response procedures are to be followed first in the event of a death or suspected death. 911 and Campus Safety & Security 386-226-7233 (SAFE) in Daytona or 928-777-3739 in Prescott must be called for all situations.

RESPONSE

The below response steps are to be followed after the Medical Emergency response steps have been completed and Law Enfrocement has been notified. In the event of a confirmed death on campus:

  1. Do not move the body
  2. Secure and leave the area and keep crowds at a safe distance.
  3. In the event of a death on campus contact Campus Safety & Security at 386-226-7233 (SAFE) in Daytona or 928-777-3739 in Prescott.
  4. Campus Safety & Security shall notify the Vice President of Administration, and/or Dean of Students office to ensure appropriate notification procedures are arranged and completed for all deaths on campus. This will include:
    1. Notification to family of victim if police are not initiating.
    2. Notification to University officials, victim's roommates, closely affected campus population, and the entire campus community.
    3. Make arrangements for alternate temporary living quarters as required.
    4. Ensure any affected areas are remediated.
    5. Refer affected individuals to the Counseling Center for assistance as needed.
