Shelter in place is used for any type of emergency where it is safer to secure yourself in the current location. The situation may be weather-related or because of a hostile situation.

  1. Proceed to an emergency shelter area until Campus Safety & Security officials advise it is safe to leave.
  2. Close all windows and exterior doors.
  3. Attempt to seal outside doors, windows and elevator shafts with tape if available.
  4. Turn off outside ventilation systems (i.e., air conditioning, heat, attic fans, etc.)
  5. Do not use elevators.
  6. Follow all University Emergency Information sources.
